Fire Magician — Me as a fire magician (aka chemist)

When the kids did a fire project in kindergarden, I reckoned that, as a chemically educated ex-scientist, I should actually contribute something. So I did a magician's show, demonstrating some fireworks chemistry.

Can Iron burn?

Educational objective: Particle size, oxygen supply and inflammability

Relation to fireworks: Sparklers

Observation:

Iron nail: not inflammable
Wire wool: a little inflammable
Iron powder: burns like hell

Iron powder in gas flame — Iron powder burns very well

Wire wool is magnetic — The magnet proves: Wire wool is really made of iron
