My first astrophotography -- almost full moon at April 3rd, 2015. Thanks to the telescope's huge mirror, the chosen exposure time of 1/2000 s was almost still too long...

After more than 30 years I fulfilled myself an old dream and acquired a fast astronomical telescope on an equatorial mount. If only there was less light pollution in our modern western civilisation...!

Equipment

  • 200 mm Newtonian reflector "Skywatcher Explorer 200P" f/5 (= focal length 1000 mm) on a (admittedly: somewhat under-sized) equatorial mount (NEQ5; German-style, of course ;) with SynScan tracking system
  • 60 mm refractor ("Kosmos-Selbstbaufernrohr") f/13 (= focal length 800 mm)
  • An (unmodified) Nikon D5000 is uses as astro camera
