Disk Missing?!

After repairing the main computer console, I, of course, had to try out the floppy disk drive! Unfortunately, all attempts to read a disk's directory ended with the message Drive A: disk missing. A look inside the drive quickly revealed that the spindle drive belt had apparently come apart and was now in tatters.

A quick repair attempt involved a reasonably suitable belt with a square cross-section, taken from a variety of belts primarily intended for hi-fi equipment. It turned out that while the drive still worked in principle, the temporary belt did tend to slip off the spindle from time to time.

Fortunately, I was able to track down a suitable belt with the original dimensions (Ø 71.0 x 2.8 x 0.6 / circumference 223 mm), which now seems to allow trouble-free operation again.
